Leprosy Memorial
This poetic and contemplative project creates a dialogue between the past, the present, and the future. The memorial pays tribute to the people affected by leprosy who lived and passed away in the village of Orofara. The site’s historic headstones and crosses are preserved and gathered within a planted memorial garden overlooking the ocean.
The arrangement and number of the headstones form the emotional strength of the composition, while the names of the deceased are engraved on a striking memorial wall in the background, providing families with a place for remembrance and reflection.
The future crematorium, located at the upper part of the site, is reached via a contemplative pathway that winds through the Garden of Remembrance, a dense grove of native trees, and fragrant flowering landscapes, creating a serene setting that encourages reflection and quiet contemplation.
